Support- Family Style

Last week in our meeting, we discussed the support you receive from family and friends on your weight loss journey. We do not lose weight in a vacuum. We live our life with other people.  How do we enlist their support? Should we list their support? What if I don't want to get their support and want to do this thing on my own?

You will actually be more successful if you get someone on your side. Hey, this is a battle! You need supporters to win the war.

I heard a radio spot on how families can handle family money matters successfully. They recommended having a family meeting and deciding which spouse should be the one handling the finances and having collaboration on a budget. No rockets science there, but it gave me an idea.
What if Suzie Weight Watcher member called a family meeting?

  • At that meeting, Suzie WW shares with the family her goal to get healthier.
  • She shares that she needs to create blocks of time for an exercise program and needs the family's support. She says that she doesn't want X,Y and Z foods in the house for a certain period of time, but she'd be happy to accompany the family once a week to the local ice cream store.
  • She explains that she won't be baking chocolate chip cookies in the near future (her downfall) but she'll happily give the kids money to buy a bakery cookie instead.
Suzie takes the family input on what will work for THEM while working for her. She makes her health-project a family project. She gets "buy-in" and gets the family on her TEAM.

I think this is a great idea. Have you done it? Thinking it might work for you?

Create an agenda- call a family meeting- and let me know the outcome. This could make all the difference in the world to your success.
