Weight Loss Motivation- Where Does It Come From?

There was a visitor from another country who visited our Weight Watchers meeting room. She enjoyed our style of  Weight Watchers meetings and the liveliness of our members.
She went back to her home country, participated for a few weeks and then dropped out.
An email came from this lady wondering why her leader didn't track her down with a phone call to urge her to come back. Why, indeed?
Sometimes leaders here in the states do reach out. I've reached out by post card, by email and once by an AOL instant message. (That last one was effective: Member X returned and now is a 75 pound loser who is still trekking!)
YET....I learned something new in my coaching classes- the coach can't work harder, or CARE MORE than the person trying to achieve their goals.

I can't care more than you care.

You have to be the one motivated to achieve and maintain weight loss. I can't create that motivation in you. You know what brought you in to Weight Watchers that very first day! Perhaps it was a photo, a not-so-nice comment, doctor's orders or your last pair of jeans were getting tight. You know why you want to be healthier and more fit.

By coming to your meetings, you gain tools, inspiration and ideas to further your goals- but again, they are YOUR GOALS.

I can't care more than you care. You are the one who has to MAKE TIME for your weekly meeting. You are the one who has to make time to plan and shop for healthy meals. You are the one who has to conquer your challenges and reach out for help as needed.

The Weight Watchers team of leader, receptionists and fellow members are there for questions, discussions and words of encouragement. For YOU. We want to help you on your journey. But the motivation? It has to come from within you.
