I was only 14 years old the summer my Auntie Winnie took me to a meeting in the Seattle University Village Shopping Center. (Anybody remember that location?) She had good intentions and I did want to lose weight- I just wasn't motivated enough. I lasted one week.
Twenty pounds later, at age 16, I joined for the second time. At this age I was ready to learn to cook and definitely more motivated to look better. I did lose some weight and slimmed down quite a bit. I still remember the joy in my heart when Dad commented that I finally had "a figure!" And I felt good- just like Jennifer Hudson sings it!
Unfortunately, I didn't keep going to meetings, nor did I reach any goal, and of course, you know the story.
Another 18 pounds later, I found myself at my heaviest weight ever. I joined again- lost a few pounds and stopped going. I join and join and quit and quit. Can't really remember the reasons as this was close to 30 years ago!
When did I finally make up my mind to get to goal? My girlfriend told me she had a wish to become a WWers leader. I thought, "Hmm, sounds good to me, too!" When I had this tangible goal (besides a number on the scale), I went for it. I reached goal for the first time six months after I got married. I did become a leader, way back in 1983 when we were called "lecturers." I led three different meetings for a few months when I experienced a problematic pregnancy and had to quit all work. I never did come back to WWers and struggled to lose all the baby weight from all my pregnancies on my own. Now that I look back, I WISH I would have come back to meetings to make the whole process that much more enjoyable and easier. Yet, I had learned enough from my YEARS of WWers to lose most of my pounds. Every time I did join WWers, I learned habits that stuck with me.
Somehow I got inspired to be a leader again. I had a few pounds to lose even though I was well under my WWer goal. In 2006 I came back, lived the Points program, applied for a leader position and went through training.
Working for WWers is great fun for me and surely makes me more aware of every bite I put in my mouth. Some of you may consider making working for WWers as a leader or receptionist, a motivator for your getting to goal. If you are interested, please contact me. (I'll personally give you the low-down- there's a staff recruitment drive on right now.)
If that goal doesn't grab you, you MUST consider what is YOUR GOAL! You can't get anywhere unless you know where you are going. What goal will it take to make this your "last time?"
Think on it. What is your goal and what are the mini-goals that are doable and achievable along the way? If you have any questions about this, I'm here to help. Just ask.
