When you have a food that is "talking" to you, get busy for ten minutes. Tell yourself, "if I still want it in ten minutes, I will eat it!" Of course, it doesn't hurt to put that food away either (though sometimes putting your hands on the "noisy" food item could be fatal).
Today I've had to distract myself three times already. Once, I took my medicine. The second time I changed a bed. The third time, I decided to take out my eating frustrations on this blog. The truth is, I could eat a fruit. But that is not what I'm yearning for at this moment. (It happens.)
Yesterday I used distraction many times: I ate fruit twice, I folded laundry, I made a phone call, I checked out my email and then I came up with the best solution- I put on a youtube exercise video and danced my frustrations away. Check out the Monday, November 22, 2010 blog entry below and see if exercise videos on demand will help you. I am a big fan of this Paul Eugene fellow- a smiling, entertaining fitness guy who makes exercise kind of fun.
Write down three things you could do with a ten minute break. Use those ideas when bad food choices beckon. If you end up doing an exercise video or get involved in something that takes a while, you will most likely forget about the food altogether.
And since I am of a certain, distractible age- I forget very easily! Hope you can, too!
