To get started on Weight Watchers, you need two things.
The first component is the MOTIVATION to succeed. You need to figure out WHY you are joining and then write that down. It is likely that you will lose some enthusiasm (commitment) in the days or weeks ahead, so it is helpful to go back to that written motivation to keep you on track. (Ask for a Winning Outcome worksheet in the meeting room to record your motivation.)
The second thing you need is the Weight Watchers Tool box. These are the things that are included in the program. When you get home from your first meeting (after you've made a trip to the grocery store), you need to READ your Start Eating Smarter booklet. You need to figure out how the program works and how it will best work for you.
Remember it is a process- a process of finding new foods to eat or old favorites, just in smaller portions. As one gal told me today- "the best part of Weight Watchers is that there are no forbidden foods." This came from someone who has already lost more than twenty pounds.
If you are ever in my meeting room, you hear me repeating the same mantra- You have to LIKE the foods you eat as you lose weight- because those are the same foods you are going to eat to maintain your weight.
I encourage each Weight Watcher to design a food program that makes them happy. If you don't care for cottage cheese and cantaloupe- don't eat them! Make each bite count. This is a long term program and you may as well enjoy the ride.
So as you start your program- take your time. Learn the POINTS system. Be gentle (forgiving) to yourself, but keep your motivation in your mind. You've had your share of treats or overeating- now is the time to get serious about your goal- and go for it.
